5000 SPECIAL CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN 178 SUMMER CAMPS OF EDUCATION DEPARTMENT-MALUKA

CHANDIGARH JULY 5: As many as 5000 special students of Punjab Government schools participated in the 178 summer camps organized by the education department in all 22 districts with a purpose to explore the hidden talents of these students.

          Stating this here today, Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka said that in this first of its own kind of initiative of the department received a massive response from the students during 11 days of summer camps. He said that in these camps besides entertaining activities, the Special Children, efforts were done to connect these students with the mainstream of education. He said that children were taught various fun activities like drawing & painting, collage making, paper art, play acting, drama and clay modeling, etc. Apart from this, the children were also enjoyed various games so they could compete in the next Special Olympics including 100 meters race, shot put among others and buchi games besides other indoor and outdoor sports activities. 

          The Minister also said that during these camps, children with ortho disabilities and cerebral palsy were provided physiotherapy and speech therapy treatments to those children having hearing & speech impairments. He said that experts also guided them about how to dance with the help of visual prompts. Children were taught activities in small groups according to their ability, age and inclination.

          He said that special arrangements of refreshments and transportations had been made by the department, which was provided to these students free of cost while the victorious students of competitions held on last day of the camps were awarded with appreciation letters whereas the remaining students in all 22 students were awarded with participation letters.

          Maluka said that as these first ever camps had received an unprecedented response and the state government was contemplating to organize this noble initiative in future too.
