Freida Pinto and Meryl Streep support Nirbhaya case documentary India’s daughter!

Even as the Indian government was pressing it not to show the controversial documentary on the December 16 gang-rape, The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) on Wednesday night went ahead and telecast in UK and other countries.

The film titled as India’s Daughter, which is directed by BAFTA award winning director Leslie Udwin will also be premiered at the launch event, hosted at the 20th anniversary of the UN Fourth World Conference for Women.

In fact, Freida Pinto and Meryl Streep have joined the movement, we are told. Let us also tell you that Freida has joined this movement not just as a crusader for the cause dedicated to women but also as an associate producer on the film.

Being someone who has always been at the forefront of female focused issues right from her work with the NGO Plan International across the globe to her role as co producer and ambassador of the Girl Rising movement, Freida has taken on this project to team up with strong platforms like Vital Voices to ensure the widespread impact of its messaging.

One one hand where it’s downright shameful to see Home Minister Rajnath Singh restraining the broadcast of this documentary, which ideally should be compulsory viewing for each and everyone of us, it’s good to hear that Freida and Meryl have come forward and acknowledged the gravity of something as horrible as this rape.
