Beirut, Jan 22

The UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Derek Plumbly condemned Tuesday the bombing that rocked the suburbs of Beirut and expressed his concerns over the escalation of terrorist attacks in the country.

Plumbly said Tuesday's explosion is the third of its kind in Lebanon in the past three weeks and said he considered it an escalation of a disturbing pattern of terrorist acts, Xinhua reported.

"Such acts cannot be justified because they contradict the interests of all Lebanese people," he added.

After expressing condolences to the victims' families, Plumbly called upon the Lebanese people to bolster unity among themselves.

A suicide bombing rocked the Haret Hreik area in the southern suburbs of Beirut Tuesday, leaving five people killed and over 50 wounded.
