Sangrur: March 27

Congress Party candidate from Sangrur Lok Sabha seat Vijay Inder Singla today while addressing a large number of election related public meetings in the villages falling under the Mehal Kalan segment of this seat said that Congress manifesto has pledged to provide a ‘Right to Health’ to all its citizens which will be a blessing for the ailing health system of Punjab and give much needed quality health treatment to people in Punjab. He stated that most of the Primary Health Centres (PHCs) do not have medical staff and even basic essential medicines are not available in govt. hospitals and people have lost faith in government health institutions.

Through the ‘Right to Health’ we will get increased spending in health sector under the 12th Plan and stated that manifesto provides for a free quality treatment (including medicines) to all as a matter of right; each district to be provided with 5 mobile vans fitted with X Ray and Mammography machines, blood testing equipment etc. and a functional toilet in each school and every household. He also stated that estimated 60 lakh jobs in the health sector will be generated by 2020 and pointed that the 449 crore PGI Sangrur Hospital being established at Village Ghabdan (Sangrur) with Central funds is a step not only for providing quality health treatment for Cancer and other diseases but also for increasing business activity and providing new jobs in the region.

Singla also expressed commitment towards welfare, security and safety of women and informed in nukkad meetings that manifesto promises to establish ‘Fast Track’ Courts to deal with crimes against women apart from earmarking 30% of Panchayat and Nagarpalika funds for women and child related development. He stated that Congress is committed to bring Women into the political mainstream by reserving 33% of all seats in Lok Sabha and Assemblies for Women – like in the case of Panchayats for a social transformation and stated that he was confident of UPA forming the Government once again and urged the people to vote with a conscience and vote for the candidate who has the ability and capacity to deliver and has a proven track record.
