August 18, 2014 11:10 PM

UPSC issued a press release recently urging candidates to leave questions in English comprehension section unanswered in the upcoming civil services preliminary examination as they would not be evaluated. The paper is likely to continue with two-hour duration.

Issuing the notification on August 16, in sync with government decision not to consider English comprehension section of Paper II for merit, UPSC stated in a press release, "The maximum marks for Paper II would be '200 minus the marks earmarked for the English language comprehension skills (Class X level)'."

Earlier, appealing to protesting civil service aspirants to withdraw their agitation, the government announced that marks for English section of Paper II must not be included for gradation or merit. Further, it requested an additional attempt be granted to all those who had appeared for UPSC examination held in 2011, to take the exam again in 2015.
