Supporting the World Junior Girls Golf Championship

On behalf of the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), John Carmichael, Member of Parliament (Don Valley West), today announced $50,000 in funding to Golf Canada. This funding, provided through Sport Canada’s Hosting Program, supports the hosting of the World Junior Girls Golf Championship being held at the Angus Glen Golf Club in Markham, Ontario, from September 26 to October 1, 2014.

  • The first-ever World Junior Girls Golf Championship was awarded to Canada by the International Golf Federation; it has attracted 48 athletes from 15 countries.
  • Sport Canada’s Sport Support Program is providing up to $685,500 to Golf Canada during the 2014–2015 fiscal year.
  • Sport Canada’s Athlete Assistance Program provided nearly $119,000 to 17 Canadian golfers to assist with living, training and tuition expenses in 2013–2014.
