Huma Qureshi is a voracious reader. From classics, autobiographies to fiction, the actress reads any and every kind of book. So much so, that even on the sets if there is any free time, she prefers curling up with a book. Says Huma, “As a kid my favourite books were Goosebumps, the Enid Blyton series and Nancy Drew. I would sneak these story books into my class book. While my mother would think I am studying, I would actually be reading the story book!” Currently, the actress is reading Sydney Lumet’s book on filmmaking. We asked her to list her five all-time favourite reads and here’s what she said:

Albert Camus: I have read his books a lot. He was one of the most important existentialist writer. Whether it is The Stranger, or The Outsider I was completely blown away by his books.

Willam Darlymple: I love reading anything written by him. Being an Indophile his books bring out the history and culture of India beautifully.

Orhan Parmuk: He is a brilliant and profound writer. One of my favourite books of his is Snow. It talks about secular and extremist world in a very non-political and gripping manner. He writes about his country Turkey and paints a very vivid picture.

Autobiographies: Autobiographies are exciting to read. They give an insight into the state of mind of the writer. They not only help you break the mysiticism about the author, but are also very inspiring. I am looking forward to read ing Sachin Tendulkar’s autobiography now.

Gone Girl: It’s a fabulous book. Each chapter offers something new. First the girl is missing, then the guy seems to be evil. The climax is dramatic. It’s one of those rare cases where even the film has turned out so well.
