Special drive fetches over Rs 23 Lakh for AAP in a day

New Delhi:

The Aam Aadmi Party today recorded a sharp rise in its donations with 893 people chipping in close to Rs 23 lakh.

The sudden rise in the contributions was attributed to the party's social media campaign asking people to donate money in the figure of Rs 2,611, as the party was founded on this day two years ago.

"We have launched an online campaign through social media network asking people to donate money in the figure of 2611 as it is the second anniversary of the party today. By the end of the day we hope to raise Rs 26.11 lakh," said a party source.

This is the second consecutive day when the party is recording a multi-fold increase in its revenue ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls, as yesterday the party had received Rs 12.5 lakh in donation.

The party hopes to gather Rs 30 crore ahead of the polls in Delhi. From November 1 till date, it has collected Rs 84,83,462 lakh, according to data on the AAP website.

As part of its fund raising efforts, the party will hold a fund-raising dinner featuring AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal in Mumbai tomorrow, where each invite costs Rs 20,000.

It had adopted a similar strategy before Lok Sabha elections, when Kejriwal had taken part in such programmes across the country.
