E-retailer Flipkart Tuesday said about 10,000 sellers would become millionaires by selling their goods on the online platform during 2015.

"About 2,000 sellers became millionaires in 2014, with 500 of them doing business of Rs.10 lakh (Rs.1 million) in December, while 50 of them did a business of Rs.1 crore each," the city-based e-commerce player said in a statement here.

With about 30 percent year-on-year growth, sellers of apparels and consumer electronics crossed the millionaire-mark, followed by their counterparts in home decor, jewellery, handicraft and large appliances.

"About 60 percent of the millionaire-sellers were from metros (Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru) and the remaining from tier-2 and tier-3 cities. We expect the numbers from tier-2 and tier-3 cities to double this year," the statement noted.

The company said it was taking measures to help sellers create and expand their brands by empowering them through workshops, training programmes, working capital assistance and marketing support services like packaging and cataloguing.

"We have enabled sellers across the country to adopt the e-commerce marketplace model to grow their businesses over the last two years on our platform. It's a huge motivation to see this tenfold growth amongst our sellers in 2014," Flipkart vice president Ankit Nagori said.

Flipkart offers 20 million products across 70 categories, including books, media, consumer electronics and lifestyle through multiple services such as cash-on-delivery and a 30-day replacement policy.

With about 20,000 employees, the e-retailer has 26 million registers users, clocking eight million daily hits and delivers five million shipments per month across the country.
