I quick movie review: Vikram’s stellar performance stands tall in Shankar’s visually grand love story!

When we saw the trailer of Vikram’s I we were stunned with its breathtaking visuals and high octane fight sequences. And since we couldn’t figure much about the story line from the trailer, we were really looking forward to watching this sci-fi romantic thriller starring Vikram, Amy Jackson, Suresh Gopi, Upen Patel, Santhanam and Ramkumar Ganesan. Our critic Subramanian Harikumar is watching the film at a theatre right now and has sent us his first impression of the film.

He says, “I tells the story of Mr Tamil Nadu aspirant, Lingesan, played by Vikram, who is head over heels in love with super model Diya played by Amy Jackson. When Amy faces trouble with arrogant model Upen Patel, she tranforms Lingesan into Lee and makes him a star model overnight. At the same time, in a different timeline, I also tells the story of a hunch backed cripple, who also happens to be Lingesan. The cripple abducts Diya before her marriage. How did Lingesan aka Lee become crippled and what happened between him and Diya which forced him to abduct her forms the rest of the story. Performances from Amy and Upen are decent, but it is Vikram who steals the show with his colloquial slang, bulging muscles and impeccable acting. Santhanam provides comic relief and PC Sreeram’s cinematography in top notch especially in songs. AR Rahman’s background score is incredible and Shankar’s direction is noteworthy as he takes a normal love story to a grand scale. But story wise, I has nothing new to offer. Lets see how the story unfolds in second half.”
