5 tantrums stars throw at award shows!

January 20, 2015 02:40 PM

A big star recently made her manager call a magazine editor asking what category her client would win. The poor editor was in for a rude shock knowing that his nominations weren’t even out and the actress who had mediocre success with her film she expected would become a hallmark in its genre was already rehearsing her thank you speech for his show. A veteran in being part of this annual circus aka film award shows, this editor politely told the manager his jury would decide if she was worthy enough. To this reply, there was a chuckle and a blunt “yea sure!” from the manager’s end who assured that the star would put up a no-show unless she won something in the popular category.

This is just a glimpse of the stress editors and award show organisers go through every year on a regular basis. Last year a big producer director didn’t let one of his protégées attend a show because he was winning something in a generic category. “Give him something for writing or directing then I will send him”, the film maker was heard telling a senior journalist.

We run you down through top five tantrums that actors throw every year at award shows. To make it more fun we will even drop some clues, let’s see how good you guys are at guessing! Let the game begin.

Miss “why would I clap for her” ?

This actress who is on a forced hiatus due to her recent marriage is often heard asking her friends why should she attend an award show and be filmed clapping for another actress! Fair enough we say. In fact, she even threw a fit when a show editor manipulated a clip of her clapping for another rival actress who went on stage to collect an award. She not only threatened to sue the organisers, but demanded an apology from the publication house that put up the show.

“Lets settle for 3!”

This not so A list star who hasn’t had a big hit for a while was heard bargaining his performancefee with the organisers. The call started by him asking for Rs 4 crore and then the tone changed from I want to I am willing to settle. This actor in his late ’40s made it awkward for the editor to explain that he was no longer in demand and no one in his senses would pay him Rs 3 crore to dance on a medley of his yesteryear hits!

“Okay if not main then supporting Toh de do! “

A scatter brained PR agent once met up another show organiser over lunch asking for a ‘small favour’. Her client who’s an actress that has had critical but very little commercial success was expecting to win best actress at this show. When the editor laughed and asked ‘are you serious?’, the PR stepped down and said ‘maybe supporting then ?’. Poor editor sahiba couldn’t believe she was having this conversation and quickly put an abrupt end to this pimped up lunch.

“So who’s winning lifetime achievement this year ?”

This over the hill actor once sent a random text message in the middle of the night asking a popular magazine film editor who was winning lifetime achievement award ? The editor had to rub his eyes out on his trademark glasses and double check the name that flashed on his screen. Having met this senior actor who played a villain in the 80s he found it hard to believe that he was self nominating himself for the much acclaimed trophy! Fortunately the award didn’t go to him and we are told the creepy SMS might just pop up again this year before the awards !

“Sorry,Madam won’t give her an award!”

This legendary diva who is a regular at every award season every year refused to present a trophy to an actress who she publicly admires yet privately disses! Madame turned down the offer through her secretary friend who is very close to her and informed the organisers that she can only make it if they make her present a male actor. Unfortunately given the respect she beckons the organisers succumbed to the pressure and made her present a good looking actor who this refusing to age diva gushed and praised on stage to the embarrassment of her wife who was in the audience.

So now that we filled you in on some behind the scenes backstage arm twisting that goes on at award shows let us know if you are good at guessing and tell us who do you think these celebs might be!
