Sonam Kapoor: Anushka Sharma should win awards for her performance in PK!

January 21, 2015 03:30 PM

Sonam Kapoor has quite a busy year ahead. Her next release Dolly Ki Doli has her playing the role of a con-woman and she is waiting for the audience to watch her film with bated breath.

I caught up with the vivacious fashionista for a quick chat. Excerpts from the interview…

The award season is upon us. How important is winning an award for you?

Any kind of recognition is nice. Honestly, to be awarded for a comic and romantic role is really sweet. You need to be applauded and recognised for it. I don’t know if I believe in it or not I just know that it feels nice to be recognised for what you do.

Aamir Khan and Kangana Ranaut have boycotted awards. Do you think it is becoming kind of a statement for good actors to ban awards?

Even Salman Khan has been away from award shows for quite a few years. Everybody has got their own prerogative and everybody wants to do what they feel is right and as long as you are standing up for something, it’s great. To have and opinion is so important in this day and age. Everybody makes their choices and I respect everyone’s choices. I feel Kangana and Tabu’s performances were amazing. One of my favourite performances of the year was of Anushka Sharma‘s in PK. You know because at the end of the day it was not the easiest performance because the film is called ‘PK’! But for me, she did it so effortlessly, she is an effortless performer. Some people don’t recognise things like that. Anushka deserves awards this year.

Alia Bhatt, Shraddha Kapoor and other younger actresses have already attained that popularity which took you a considerable long time. Do you regret any choices?

No, I don’t regret anything in life. Everything is a learning experience and I am in a very happy place right now. I feel like I have made amazing career choices this past year and made some of the greatest friends in the industry and I’ve got some great work happening for me.

Do you ever feel that you are not being offered challenging roles?

No, I don’t think so. The kind of roles that I have been offered from Khoobsurat to Dolly Ki Doli to Prem Ratan Dhan Payo are quite challenging.

Any director on your wishlist?

I am just going to go with the flow. I don’t like to repeat myself so hopefully it will be something different and interesting.

What kind of a response are you expecting from Dolly Ki Doli?

I am hoping for the best, like I do for all my films. It is a very sweet and crisp film. Everybody has performed well, so let’s see what happens.

Dolly, the con woman, looks like a product of a heart-break…

Watch the film on January 23 and I want you to tell me what you think.

How terrible an impact has a heartbreak ever had on your personal life?

Women’s hearts have an immense capacity to love and when it breaks it just becomes stronger and bigger. It is like a caterpillar and a butterfly, you need to break out of something in order to become something beautiful. Honestly, I think everything and anything that happens to you should always be seen in a positive way and should always give you strength as opposed to hold you back.

What do you look for in a serious relationship?

A relationship for me is about partnership. I want to be with someone I really love and it has to be mutual love and respect. The most important is that I should be able to build a life with that person.
