Black worst colour for Indians: Makeover expert

There is a common belief that the colour black hides flab, but celebrity makeover artist Susannah Constantine doesnt' agree. She also thinks that black is not meant for Indian women.

Constantine, who will be seen with style expert Trinny Woodall on lifestyle channel TLC's show "Trinny & Susannah's Makeover Mission", says colours like black, brown and beige are not good colours for Indian skin tone.

"Any colour that is close to the skin tone is not good. Black is the worst," Constantine told IANS and added women should go for bright shades.

"Most Indian women wear dark coloured clothes. I would like to see more bright colours. The ones, which are used in traditional wear, can be used for western outfits too," said the English designer.

She feels it is a myth that black makes a person look slimmer.

"We did a scientific experiment in London. There were 200 people. Some were dressed in green, others in yellow, white, blue and black. Of them, 99 percent saw black as the heaviest," she said.

Constantine and Woodall, who have travelled from Scandinavia to Britain and North America, love helping women.

"We love working with women irrespective of age. Right from a teenager to women experiencing menopause to divorcees, we have worked with all. And we enjoy giving solutions to them," she said.

Happy to be in India, the style experts feel that Mumbai is sort of like New York and compare Delhi with Paris.

The makeover show, which will premiere Aug 12, will show Constantine and Woodall searching for young men and women of different body shapes, sizes, fashion choices and backgrounds, who require style advice.

They will give glamorous makeovers to college students and working couples, among others.
